Interior Glass Partitions: Creating New and Transparent Spaces for Your Office.

Northport Glass and Door specializes in installation and repair of interior glass partitions and sliding door systems. These polished systems improve the overall design and environment of an office, while offering a functional alternative to a basic necessity of dividing spaces for separate uses.

Below (and after the jump) are some more recent interior partition projects we’ve worked on, as well as a few of our favorites from the past few years.

On the left are a few sliding doors we installed for a recent project, the Greenpoint Renaissance Center in Brooklyn, NY. The mix of basic functionality and high-end design creates an office space that encourages a sense of transparency, as well as open hospitality, that so many employees and clients can appreciate. Depending upon your needs, some sliding door systems can be adjusted for variable speed settings and perform to prevent slamming, protecting the glass within as well as the integrity of the wall system. This particular system is constructed with a thick aluminum framework, much like that of a storefront, and fitted with quarter-inch glass.

On a side note, the Greenpoint Renaissance Center recently opened its doors for the first time; and we are proud to be part of this energy-saving design. More pictures of the interior partitions and details of how these systems save energy can be found at the Greenpoint Renaissance’s Facebook page.

After the jump, more recent interior glass partitions that can inspire a new direction for your building’s design.

Preparing for a Potentially Busy Hurricane Season with Hurricane Glass.

This year, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) forecasts a potentially busy hurricane season. The weather organization predicts that there could be twelve to eighteen named tropical storms to emerge from the Atlantic Ocean, with six to ten of those storms being fully developed hurricanes. Furthermore, three to four of those storms are expected to be major hurricanes, within the ranges of Category 3 to Category 5. In that range, winds can be upwards of 111 mph and beyond.

While NOAA’s outlook report does not predict how many of those storms will reach land, it is very likely that coastal areas may be affected by severe weather, devastating winds, and the flying debris it carries. With this in mind, now may be an excellent time to consider installing hurricane windows for your home or offices, as the season officially began on June 1.

Much like car windshields, hurricane glass is composed of two layers of glass with a thin plastic layer between them so as to prevent both sides from shattering. Though they may cost more than shutters, fitting your building with hurricane glass is an investment as they also offer protection from any ballistic missile that can fly in severe weather, including debris or hail, as the case may be. Plus, they are not only practical, but hurricane glass is also a more aesthetically pleasing option compared to hurricane shutters, which also requires constant installation and take down as the weather changes. You are always prepared for any kind of weather, no matter how unexpected! Furthermore, as installation requires the appropriate frame to accommodate the glass, hurricane windows are more likely to survive and remain in any situation where wind may get behind them, unlike shutters that only protect the external side of the window. In short, hurricane glass is an investment in protecting your home or office from weather damages as well as your property inside.
